Recovery after surgery requires expert guidance to heal properly and regain full function. A licensed physical therapist can guide your rehab over video — following evidence-based protocols, progressing your exercises safely, and supporting you between visits. Covered by your insurance.
Get startedPost-surgical rehabilitation is the process of restoring strength, range of motion, and function after an orthopedic procedure. Common surgeries that require PT include knee replacements, hip replacements, ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, spinal surgeries, and arthroscopic procedures. The quality of your rehab directly impacts your surgical outcome — starting PT early and staying consistent makes a significant difference.
Post-surgical limitations are a normal part of the healing process. Tissue needs time to repair, swelling needs to resolve, and muscles that were inactive during recovery need to be rebuilt. Without structured rehabilitation, scar tissue can limit range of motion, muscles can atrophy, and compensatory patterns can develop that cause new problems.
Your PT reviews your surgical procedure, talks with you about your surgeon's protocol, and assesses your current range of motion, strength, and function. This establishes your starting point and guides the rehab plan.
Your rehab follows evidence-based protocols specific to your surgery. Early phases focus on managing swelling, restoring range of motion, and activating muscles. Later phases build strength, improve function, and prepare you to return to your normal activities.
Between visits, message your PT with questions about exercises, pain levels, or progress concerns. Your PT monitors your recovery milestones and adjusts the program as you advance through each phase.
Your first visit is about 60 minutes over video. Your PT will understand your surgery, assess where you are in recovery, and build a phase-appropriate rehab plan. Follow-up visits track your progress against expected milestones. Most post-surgical rehab programs run 8-16 weeks depending on the procedure.
